有的学术型项目会要求学生单独提交一份research proposal，有的则没有额外要求。

无论是何种情形，申请人都最好能在申请陈述中大致地描述一下自己未来的计划。

需要注意的是，你的研究计划不需要巨细靡遗，甚至不需要完整地呈现。老师们也知道你目前的这些计划很可能在未来的半年内就被会完全改变。

但是写出自己的研究计划，体现的是你在专业领域内的兴趣和积累。更重要的是，教授们能够通过你的计划判断你的研究能不能在你所申请的这个项目中得到有效的支持。

你要研究的问题是什么？

你未来希望上哪些课程，学习哪些知识和技能？

你想要和哪些教授合作？他们为什么能够帮到你？

实现你的研究目标一共有几个关键步骤？

你的研究问题可以分为多少个子问题？

你对研究方法有什么设想？

你主要关注哪些文本、年代、地域？……

这是整个申请陈述中专业性最强的部分。如果能得到专业相关的老师的支持，那么一定会事半功倍。

Once in graduate school, I hope to pursue studies related to the development of vaccines. My interest in this topic stems not only from my course work specific to immunology but also from an additional academic experience in the course “The Burden of Disease in Developing Nations.” In this class, I learned that although vaccines are currently available to treat a myriad of diseases, some of these vaccines are useless to people in the developing world because they degrade under the conditions of high temperature or humidity that are often found in these countries. Multiple lines of research can thus address both the development of new vaccines and the improvement of currently existing vaccines so that they may be useful to the great number of people.

In trying to create new vaccines for diseases for which they are currently not available, several approaches from immunology, biochemistry, molecular genetics, and organic chemistry can be considered. For example….This method requires……In addition…….This method requires……

At Vanderbilt, I hope to pursue a course of study involving the nature, formulation, and implementation of American foreign policy, specifically toward Europe and the former Soviet Union. The abatement of East-West confrontationalism and the emergence of new democracies in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union represent unparalleled opportunities and challenges for American policy makers to encourage the growth and maturation of these new political systems. While the East-West rapprochement has not resulted in cessation of regional conflict altogether, it has clearly altered the international political dynamics of such conflicts. Meanwhile, a number of international public policy issues will continue to demand attention from American policy makers: the environment, economic inter-dependence and free trade, refugeeism, and the continuing political and economic instability in the developing world. How will these issues play out in the American political process, how will the president and the Congress address these foreign policy concerns, ad what factors and pressures will influence their decisions? These are the issues that I hope to address in my studies at Vanderbilt.

Substantively and temporally, my interests in American history have generally led me to the industrial and post-industrial eras. I plan to study cultural history in general and women’s history specifically. For these reasons, I particularly look forward to the opportunity to study with Profs. Ronald Walters and JoAnne Brown for for heir work in twentieth-century topics of political and popular cultural history, respectively, and with Prof. Toby Ditz, who discussed with me her work in women’s and family history and in cultural history.
